“As a lifelong and collegiate athlete in both soccer and softball, I have always been interested in peak performance and how the human body functions. Suffering from debilitating knee and shoulder pain, requiring Motrin just to survive my sports schedule, I was sent to physical therapy. It was there I learned to properly rehabilitate the human body through natural modalities, and where I developed a deep respect for the body’s innate healing potential. While earning my Bachelors degree in Biology at Spring Arbor University I had always gravitated toward the anatomy and physiology classes, but it wasn’t until I experienced the nutrition courses that I absolutely fell in love with the material”.
Her passion for nutrition and fitness grew even deeper during her CrossFit training and certification process. Implementing the Paleo Diet (no sugars, grains, or processed foods) not only for herself and other CrossFit members but also for many of her patients with Diabetes and Heart Disease, she has seen the miraculous impact of “food as medicine”!
“My decision to seek additional training in Functional Medicine has been empowering! This approach fits perfectly with my passion for natural healing. The Institute for Functional Medicine has given me the tools I need to help patients identify and address the root cause(s) of their illnesses rather than just ‘putting band-aids’ on symptoms. After my own surprising diagnosis of the autoimmune condition Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, I implemented the Functional Medicine approach to healing, and can proudly boast that I am in full remission today! The human body is not just a collection of independent organs but instead one integrated system; the whole system needs to be treated! I feel so blessed to be able to use my passion for fitness and nutrition to empower patients with tools and resources to achieve optimal wellness!”
