How to Eat Healthy While Traveling - Part 1

Sustaining healthy eating habits at home can be easy because you have everything you need in your kitchen. But what happens when you travel for work or vacations?  Is it possible to stay on track with your goals when you have less control?

Here are 6 Travel Tips to help you take control and stay healthy during while traveling .

 

1. Room Refrigerator:

  • Ask the hotel if there is a refrigerator provided or if they could put a small one in the room during your stay. The fridge can hold leftovers from dinner, fresh food, filtered water and anything perishable you bring with you.

2. Small Cooler Bag:

  • Carry cut up fruit and veggies, boiled eggs, individual hummus cups, seeds and nuts, natural jerky, packets of nut butter and even small yogurts.

3. Pack Food in Your Checked Luggage:

  • Tuck individual packets of oatmeal, protein or collagen powder, powdered greens, paleo baking mix, natural jerky, nut/seeds, fresh fruit and even individual packets of coconut oil that can be used for cooking into your suitcase.
  • Having these items with you saves time and money especially when schedules are busy.

4. Two Reusable Bottles.

  • Bring one for water and a “blender bottle” with organic protein powder in it to mix with water for a quick snack.
  • Most airport water fountains have water bottle fillers and restaurants will provide ice and water for a small fee.
  • Get herbal tea bags from the hotel kitchen or restaurant and add them to your cold-water bottle as a flavored infusion.
  • Refill your water bottles at the hotel fitness center from the filtered water coolers.

5. Borrow Small Appliances

  • Some hotels have blenders and other appliances like waffle irons and juicers at the front desk that can be borrowed by guests.
  • Consider traveling with a small Nutribullet and make smoothies in your room.

6. Make Paleo Waffles at the Breakfast Buffet

  • Travel with Birch Benders Paleo Pancake Mix (available at most grocery stores). It comes in a lightweight Ziploc bag and fits easily into luggage.
  • Mix it with water in a small bowl and pour into the waffle iron at the breakfast buffet or if the room has a small stove top, make pancakes on the skillet provided.
  • Top them with nut butter and fruit, walnuts and cinnamon (always on a hotel breakfast bar) or coconut oil for a satisfying start to the day.
